I love Valentine’s Day. It’s the perfect winter pick-me-up.
It’s such a sweet holiday, and I don’t really care if it was “invented by greeting card companies.” (I have always been suspicious that Hallmark could be that savvy.) It’s just a cute little day to celebrate love–what could be so wrong with that? And although I’ve never actually participated in a Galentine’s event, the whole concept is wildly thrilling to me.
My parents always did a little something for us growing up and even into our twenties (I’ll never forget a few years ago opening a cute love note email from my dad, reaching for my phone to text my sisters about it, and seeing a message from my younger sister that said “Dad sent me $200!” lol).
Last year, we made little gift baskets for the girls and made homemade heart-shaped pizzas with them for dinner. I want to make it a tradition of ours. (Fave homemade dough recipe is obviously from Half Baked Harvest). Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, the girls will be home all day. I got them this coloring poster to work on with their paint sticks.
In this post, I’m sharing a few ideas for making Valentine’s Day special: a little decor, some details on the baskets I like to use, and just a few gift ideas for kids, women, and men.
I don’t like to spend a ton of money on this sort of thing, but Char LOVES decorating and crafts. So I’ll probably pick up a few festive items to make the day fun.
I used our Easter baskets for their gift baskets and will again this year. I love these ones from Target–just add a little pink crinkle paper.
I love these cute pajamas from Amazon. You can’t go wrong with sparkly play dough (for outside only, obviously), and I can’t get enough of these heart sunglasses. My mother-in-law got the girls these rain boots, and they are obsessed.
More gift ideas for kids here.
Tyler, if you’re reading this, consider it my official wishlist? I NEED some of these New Balances so I can finally match my dad (he’s been wearing these since the 90s and has no less than three pairs in his possession at all times: one for gardening, one pair for everyday wear, and one new pair in the box as backup). I tried this Lululemon pullover on a few weeks ago and it is so, so cute. Love these huggies from Mejuri (they also have well-priced solid gold options on their site if you’re looking to splurge a little). I wonder if owning something from Annie Bing (like this hat, for example) will automatically give me cool girl vibes–can’t hurt, right? This Dior lip gloss is my fave and a very juicy “top off” to a git basket situation, if you ask me.
I thought these “greatest play” coasters would be so cute for Tyler’s office–a subtle, classy nod to his insufferable Kings fandom. He also desperately needs a new toiletry bag; this one seems like it would be easier to keep organized than the classic black hole dopp kit? I got him this hoodie from Lululemon for Christmas, and he wears it constantly.
It’s a pre-weekend pick me up: just a little note with links to the latest blog posts, what I’m reading lately, and products I’m obsessed with. Think of it as a friend dropping off a surprise latte in the morning--you know?
