Today I’m sharing my Typology Tinted Serum review.
I had been seeing this French brand everywhere the last few months, so I decided to try out a couple of their products to see what all of the fuss was about.
After using Typology’s Tinted Serum for about a month, I’m sharing my in-depth review.
In this post, I’ll share some background on Typology and then get into the nitty gritty of the Tinted Serum: ingredients, coverage, consistency, finish, and my honest thoughts on the product so far.
At the end of the post, I’ll share a handful of other favorites from Typology that I have grown to love over the last few months.
Fabulous news! Typology gave me an offer to share on this post–eek! If you shop with my link, you’ll receive a *free* bottle of the Organic Orange Blossom Hydrolate with any purchase over $40.

ToggleTypology is a direct-to-consumer clean skincare brand based out of France. Typology was founded by Ning Li on the philosophy of simplicity and transparency.
Typology strives to simplify skincare and uses active natural ingredients in their products. Typology is known for their minimalistic, streamlined packaging and ingredient-forward formulas.
The majority of the line is skincare, but they’ve also ventured into the makeup space. The thing I love most about Typology’s makeup products (like the Tinted Serum we are discussing today) is that they are all designed with ingredients that enhance and improve your skin.
What makes Typology stand apart from other brands, in my opinion, is their commitment to using as few ingredients as possible in their products.
You can check out Typology’s formulation charter on their website which gives a detailed breakdown behind their philosophy as well as what they will and won’t use in their formulas. I found this fascinating.
(And, again, for the millionth time on this blog: I am not a scientist or an expert, just a bee-in-her-bonnet type of stay-at-home-mom. Take this all with a grain of salt!).
Typology complies with EU standards which are known to be more rigid than US beauty standards. Typology takes this a step further and has developed their own comprehensive list of ingredients that they avoid in their formulations in addition to those banned by the EU.
The brand boasts impressively short ingredient lists in many of their products. For example, their crown jewel face cream is famously called the “9 Ingredient Moisturizer.” And Typology’s TEN range is a collection designed specifically for sensitive skin, and all of the products under that line have no more than 10 ingredients.
Typology is cruelty-free and vegan.
Typology’s Tinted Serum is a multitasking tinted moisturizer that contains good-for-your-skin ingredients like Vitamin C, Squalane, and Aloe Vera. It does not contain SPF.
I have been applying this after I’ve done all of my morning skincare and SPF in place of my normal foundation for a bit of natural glow and light coverage.
Typology’s Tinted Serum is a water-based formula and is made with Vitamin C, Squalane, and Aloe Vera. The formula is silicone-free and non-clogging.
We know Vitamin C brightens skin and reduces pigmentation. Squalane and Aloe Vera are both super hydrators and help protect the skin’s natural barrier. That’s is why I love this product: it’s skincare and makeup.
Typology’s Tinted Serum comes in a square glass bottle with a dropper. My one complaint about the product is that you have to first pull the dropper out a little bit, squeeze out the air, and then dip it back into the bottle to get the product into the dropper. It took a bit to get used to.
Typology’s Tinted Serum provides a light to moderate amount of coverage which is surprising considering how easy it is to blend in (more on that in a minute). I initially thought this was going to be much more sheer. The consistency is very similar to Glossier’s Skin Tint which I used for years, but the coverage is MUCH better.
One thing I really like about this product is that it blends and builds easily. I can use either a tiny drop or a larger amount if I am looking for more coverage.
Typology’s Tinted Serum is thin and watery, making it very easy to spread and blend into the skin.
Typology’s website suggests applying 3-4 drops of product with either a brush or your fingers. I have applied the product a few different ways: with just my fingers, with a beauty sponge, or a mix of both.
This product is amazingly easy to apply. You really can just swipe it on with your fingers and blend it easily and quickly. As long as I have prepped my skin properly with a good moisturizer (and my SPF of course), this tinted serum just melts into my skin. In that sense, it feels like just another step of my morning skincare regimen as opposed to a whole separate event of putting on makeup.
I should note that the finish of this product is dewy. I have very dry skin and welcome a dewy product with open arms, so this was no issue for me.
The coverage lasts all day without breaking apart on my skin which is often an issue for me with traditional foundations. I have found that, like most products on my skin type, some of the “dewiness” does dry up by the end of the day.
Typology’s Tinted Serum comes in only 6 shades which I think is an area they could improve in. It’s worth noting that Typology does offer 30% off your second bottle in your cart if you are between or want to mix two shades.
I wear Type 2 which is admittedly a smidge too bronze for me, so I make sure to stay on top of my self-tanning routine when I am using this product.
Typology’s Tinted Serum costs $42.90 for a 1 oz bottle. I can’t speak to how long this product will last me as I have only been using it for a month, but I will be sure to update this post accordingly once I do run out.
To quickly compare with a few similar products: Chanel’s Vitalumière costs $55, Westman Atelier’s Vital Skincare Complexion Drops costs $68, and Glossier’s Skin Tint (similar consistency but less coverage) costs $28.
I have been very happy with this product. Typology’s Tinted Serum provides a decent amount of coverage without looking like I have makeup on. I love how easy it is to apply and love that the ingredients make this just a natural extension of my morning skincare regimen.
If you are looking for a non-fussy way to add a little coverage and dewiness to your routine, I definitely recommend Typology’s Tinted Serum.
I love this moisturizer so much. The fact that it only has nine ingredients makes it even better. This is a thick, hydrating cream that instantly makes my face feel hydrated and supple. The finish reminds me a lot of the Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate but without the perfumey smell. You can use this day or night and it also provides a great base for my SPF and makeup.
This is one of the best vitamin c serums I have tried. The formula is specifically created to brighten skin and, most importantly, stay stable over time (this is an issue I’ve seen with a lot of C serums). I love how this serum makes my skin look and will definitely return to this product again and again.
You can think of these bronzing drops as the same idea as Drunk Elephant’s D Bronzi drops, but Typology’s version is a million times better. I mix 3 drops of this with the daily moisturizer for a boost of color, and the results are amazing. The color is gorgeous and rich and I just LOVE these. Pro tip: don’t forget to blend all the way down your neck/chest.
(The bronzing drops comes in a duo with the Tinted Serum now, and they also carry a moisturizer + bronzing drops duo).
Okay, this is such a fun product. This is basically highlight in a bottle, and there are a million ways to use this. You can mix it in your moisturizer or serum OR use it as a highlight on the tops of your cheeks for a dewy glow. I would say that you don’t necessarily need both the bronzing drops that I mentioned above and the glow drops. The glow drops would be perfect for someone who isn’t interested in a bronzed look but rather just wants a simply illuminated glow, does that make sense? The finish is similar but just without the pigment added.
Thank you so much for checking out my Typology review!
