This post is going to be short and sweet, not unlike our anniversary getaway last Saturday night.
Tyler took me to Coronado for a very juicy date night sleepover to celebrate six years of marriage, and it was the BEST.
Coronado Island is a little slice of paradise that sits across the bay from downtown San Diego. Between the historic architecture, the luxurious (huge!) beaches, and charming shops/restaurant scene, it’s not hard to fall in love with Coronado.
While Coronado deserves a much longer and more ornate travel guide, I wanted to share what we did this past weekend because it was truly magical.
(I’m adding this post to my San Diego archives with the hopes of exploring more and creating a more robust guide ASAP!).
Here’s where we stayed and ate this past weekend–highly recommend it all for a breezy, romantic getaway.
Okay, I know everyone is hot on the Hotel Del, and it’s iconic, yes. BUT, we decided to stay around the corner at the Hotel Marisol, an adorable boutique hotel with just 15 rooms. Our close friends have been coming here for years, so I knew we had to try it out. The Hotel Marisol is quaint and quiet and reminds me a lot of my favorite little hotels B&B’s in Europe. The rooms are compact but the decor is charming and luxurious. Tyler and I were welcomed with open arms–and two glasses of champagne, no less!. The hotel is perfectly tucked away from the main pedestrian streets near the Del. We were still just a few minutes’ walk away from everything on this list, making the Hotel Marisol the ideal place to hole up for the weekend.
Just because we didn’t stay at the Hotel Del didn’t mean we couldn’t walk around and enjoy the views, right? The beach in front of the Hotel Del is nothing short of paradise, and we strolled across it several times during our stay. We also got drinks at sunset out on the patio bar which was a blast. The patio definitely has a lively, Miami vibe to it, but we loved it!
We LIVE for the pasta and pizza from Buona Forchetta, so we couldn’t resist grabbing a table here on Saturday night. This is one of our favorite spots in San Diego. Tyler and I usually spend the first half of our meals panicking about which pasta to order and the second half fighting over the bottle of chili oil for our pizza. This place never disappoints, and the location in Coronado is super unique–it’s called “The Garage” and has this cute Italian market inside.
Like the perfect man he is, Tyler walked and got us coffees in the morning while I iced my face and got ready for the day. We sipped our perfectly-satisfying black coffees and walked on the beach which will probably be one of my favorite memories of 2021.
Our friends who live in Coronado told us that brunch at The Henry was nonnegotiable, and they were right. I’m still dreaming about that peach mimosa and veggie scramble situation. The decor here is truly stunning and had me rethinking every design decision I’ve made this summer so far. The menu was overwhelming, so we went a little nuts (what’s new). We even ordered to-go iced coffees for the road which were FAB and eased the transition back to “real life.”
You didn’t think I’d pass up the opportunity to browse a bookstore without a baby strapped to my front and a toddler jabbing me in the thigh with yet another Little Golden Book request, did you? We happily browsed Bay Books on our way to the Del, and I was in heaven. I bought myself this new ballet thriller book that must have been personally written for me?? (The Turnout by Megan Abbott, going to devour it this weekend). My favorite thing to do when I’m traveling is to buy a book and beg the cashier to stamp it for me–usually the only souvenirs we buy!
We had such an amazing time last weekend, and I’m tempted to say it’s our new anniversary tradition??
It’s a pre-weekend pick me up: just a little note with links to the latest blog posts, what I’m reading lately, and products I’m obsessed with. Think of it as a friend dropping off a surprise latte in the morning--you know?
