I am SO excited to share my Title Nine Clothing Review.
Title Nine is a women-owned athletic apparel company based in the Bay Area and a brand that I am so inspired by. As a mom of two young girls and someone who highly values fitness and being outside, this is a brand I am beyond honored to partner with.
What distinguishes Title Nine from many of the popular fitness apparel brands on the market right now is their emphasis on the outdoors. Of course, you can wear their apparel for inside workouts, but much of Title Nine’s focus is on outdoor running, hiking, swimming, and playing. In a time where we are all glued to our screens, this is something I, for one, can get behind.
I love that their designs reflect this mission. Title Nine’s clothing line is durable and thoughtfully designed for the adventure seeker, the avid gardener, the hiking addict, the weekend warriors.
The brand is by women, for women. I found this phrase repeated several times on their website, and it really stuck with me: “We are fit to run, we are fit to lead, we are fit to win.”

ToggleI was first introduced to Title Nine back in 2017 when my husband and I lived right around the corner from their storefront in Los Gatos, CA. The brand came back on my radar this past fall, and I was super excited to try out their line.
In today’s Title Nine clothing review, I am going to share a little background on the brand and their mission statement. Then, I’ll walk through every single item I’ve tried and my thoughts on the fit, sizing, and material.
Title Nine was founded in the Bay Area in 1989 by Missy Park. As you might have guessed, the brand’s name is inspired by the 1972 federal civil rights law that requires gender equality in all aspects of education. This requirement extended to school athletic programs, opening up the world of sports to women who would not have otherwise had the chance to train and compete.
Missy Park entered college on the heels of Title Nine and played basketball, tennis, and lacrosse at Yale. Missy’s sister, who was four years older, did not have such opportunities.
Research shows that girls who play sports are less likely to do drugs and more likely to achieve academic success. Missy Park’s experience with sports, as a direct result of Title Nine, set the trajectory for her life’s mission and career.
At the time, the gear made available to female athletes was subpar at best. She launched her clothing company out of her garage in 1989. There was no Lululemon or Athleta at the time.
With no outside investors, Title Nine has served bold, brave female athletes for three decades now. If you are interested to hear more of their story, I highly recommend listening to Missy Park’s episode of How I Built This with Guy Raz.
Title Nine carries a variety of brands on their site, but in today’s review I am focusing on their own line.
The first thing I noticed about Title Nine’s gear is how soft and wearable the materials are. I am a Sensitive Sally and tend to have a very high bar for material when it comes to athletic gear. If it feels too “sporty” or “slippery,” I get the heebies. (I know I’m not the only one like this?).
The entire line is SO soft and well made. These pieces are durable, functional, and built to last.
Since the brand focus is on outside workouts, their product line covers the full gamut of climate needs. From fleece lined tights fit for ski days to fleeces for chilly early morning runs to airy breathable tanks for desert hiking, Title Nine seems to have thought of everything. I love when a brand gets so specific like this.
From here, I’ll walk through everything I’ve tried from Title Nine, starting with pants/bottoms and then moving to tops and jackets.
I’ll kick things off with one of my favorite Title Nine items so far. Nearly seamless and designed for a full range of activities, MVT ⅞ Train Tights are Title Nine’s most versatile legging. I LOVE these leggings. They feel exactly like my Lululemon Align leggings, but they are just a bit thicker and have more of a compression effect (love). These leggings have a super thick, high waistband with a hidden drawstring so you can adjust as needed. They also have super flattering pockets on the legs and on the lower back. I would say these run slightly big. For reference, I am almost always a medium in pants but could have sized down to a small in these.
Title Nine’s Sylvan Hybrid Hiking Tights are, dare I say, revolutionary. On the inside, they feel almost like a normal pair of leggings, and then the outer material is this durable, abrasion-resistant material that feels akin to a pair of classic hiking pants. The result is a form fitting, ultra supportive legging built for long hikes, climbing, and exploring. It’s giving superwoman? These leggings are definitely a bit stiff and less breathable than a typical pair of leggings but will certainly come in handy on my next Yosemite trip (or, God-willing, the Dolomites this summer!). These run true to size.
The MVT Train Flare Pants are the same buttery material as the MVT ⅞ tight I talked about above but with a fun flare cut. These have that same flattering waistband and pocket situation which I love. My only wish is that these came in long/tall sizes because they are quite short on me. (For reference I am 5’9” and am wearing a Medium here).
I am SO excited about the Flora Skort and have a feeling I’ll be wearing it all spring and summer. This do-it-all skort is flattering, comfortable, and so easy to wear. You can see below that I styled it two ways in this post: once for a workout or walk and the other for a more casual day of exploring or traveling. I love that this skort has a slight flare. It is high waisted and actually a bit longer than other athletic skorts I’ve owned or tried on which is nice. I also loved that the waistband doesn’t dig in at all. The material of the Flora Skort reminds me a lot of Beyond Yoga’s iconic space dye fabric. SO comfy. Runs a tiny bit big! I kept my usual size but could have sized down.
The Clamber Pants are one of Title Nine’s bestsellers and a classic tapered hiking pant. These pants have all the bells and whistles: six pockets, cinch tie cord for length adjustments, UPF 50. These are not pants I would typically reach for as I prefer leggings when I’m hiking, but I was surprised by how comfortable and flattering these were and am super excited to put them to use. The material is a lightweight, quick-dry material designed for the elements, perfect for adventures of all kinds. The team at Title Nine told me their customers love these for gardening too–say no more!! These run a bit small–I sized up.
I am obsessed with the Headlands Ribbed Tank. I got it in white because I wear either a white tee or a white tank as the base for every single outfit, every day of the year. I love the neckline on this tank. It’s flattering all on its own but doubles as a base under sweaters or cardigans. I love the ribbed detail, and the length is tuckable without leaving too much excess material. Runs to true to size. It is slightly see-through. I’m wearing a nude racerback bralette here, but I think it would also look kind of cute with a bright colored sports bra for a more sporty look.
The Headlands Ribbed Long Sleeve has that same comfy, casual ribbed cotton as the tank top. This top is so comfortable, and I love the Surf Spray color. My only note here is that I wish the long sleeve also came in white as I would get way more use out of it! Runs true to size.
I think I just found my favorite new running tank. The fabric on this tank is incredible–the tank is actually part of TItle Nine’s appropriately titled Buttah® LT collection. It’s soft and breathable but not clingy at all. The fabric reminds me of Vuori’s DreamKnit material. I love the racerback and the seam details. One thing to note: The arm openings are definitely roomy, so my sports bra shows. I find this more flattering and less constricting than the alternative, but it’s worth mentioning. Runs true to size.
This long sleeve top has that same luxurious material as the Grace tank which I do love. I wasn’t necessarily blown away by the fit, but I see now on the website that Title Nine has a different version of this top called the Grace Raglan long sleeve tee, and it looks like this one would be a bit more flattering (love the shoulder detail and thumbhole!).
This jacket is the stuff of my morning walk dreams. It is unbelievably warm and cozy but not bulky whatsoever. I live in San Diego, so the temps only get so low, but I read through the reviews, and it seems like this fleece rises to the occasion in even the most frigid of climates. I LOVE the thumbholes. Runs true to size.
I recently had to retire the running jacket I have been using faithfully for 6 years, so I was thrilled to discover the Vital 2.0 Hoodie. This is the perfect second layer for runs because it is comfortable, easy to move in, and, most importantly, ultra lightweight. This means it doesn’t slow me down, not even when I take it off and wrap it around my waist mid run. If I were to change one thing about the design, I would leave off the hood (just because it doesn’t rain here and I don’t need it!). Again, more thumbholes. Runs a little big depending on how fitted you’d want it to be. I could have sized down.
I’ll wrap this review with Title Nine’s Coveted ½ Zip Fleece Pullover. Quarter and half zips are a real weakness of mine, so it’s not shocking that I absolutely love this piece. The material is thin but cozy like your favorite sweatshirt. It’s also moisture-wicking which means it can go from school drop off to a hike without any consequences (I did just this last week–can confirm). I love both colorways SO much. I sized up for a roomier fit and because I have long arms and wanted to take full advantage of the thumbholes…but I wouldn’t say it was absolutely necessary. LOVE.
Thank you for checking out my Title Nine clothing review!
