Today I’m sharing my Primally Pure deodorant review.
I have been seeing Primally Pure all over Instagram this year. When I posted on my IG stories about wanting to try out their products last month, I received a TON of responses about their deodorant!
I like to strike a balance in most areas of my life, and that includes all things related to skincare and beauty. I stick with clean(er) products when I can but don’t stress out about it. I don’t love all of the fear-mongering on social media about clean living and beauty, but I do try to make swaps when it makes sense. Mineral sunscreen? Yes. Botox 2x a year? Also, yes.
After all of the hype I’ve seen over Primally Pure’s natural, nontoxic deodorant, I was very curious to try it and see what all the fuss was about. I even ordered one for Tyler to put to the test as well. We’ve both been using this deodorant for a few weeks now, so I thought I’d put together a formal review.
In today’s Primally Pure deodorant review, I’m going to share some basic info about the product and then walk through my honest opinion after almost a month of using it daily.

ToggleI have really sensitive skin, and most deodorants–both traditional and natural–end up bugging me.
Antiperspirant deodorants made with aluminum are suspected to be linked to cancer and other health concerns, although so far in my research I haven’t seen anything super conclusive on that. The bigger concern, for me, is that antiperspirants are formulated to stop your body from sweating. Sweating is an enormously important bodily function that aids in temperature regulation and detoxification.
The other problem with aluminum and more traditional deodorants is that the harsh formulas can cause irritation. I spent most of my teens and twenties with irritated armpits (lol) before I figured out what was going on. I stopped using aluminum/antiperspirant deodorant over 10 years ago.
Since then, I have been on the hunt to find a natural deodorant that actually works and doesn’t break me out. I have found that even most natural deodorants are too harsh–I believe this is often due to the high baking soda content, but I’m not positive.
I have found a few scents and formulas that have worked for me, but it’s been hard to find one that I don’t need to reapply over the course of the day.
I have to say that Primarily Pure is the best natural deodorant I’ve tried. After three weeks of daily use, I have noticed no signs of irritation or dryness. The formula does include baking soda (more on that below), but it seems to be not as prominent in the formula.
Primally Pure deodorant smells AMAZING. I have the Bergamot + Eucalyptus, and Tyler has been using the Charcoal. They both smell so good and are not overpowering at all.
Best of all, this deodorant actually lasts all day. I have been intentionally not reapplying just to really get a sense of how long the product lasts, and I have to say I’m pretty impressed. Most days, it lasts all day. There were a few days earlier in the month during the heatwave where it didn’t last quite as long, but we aren’t asking for miracles here. “Good enough” in a deodorant is good enough for me.
Tyler really likes this deodorant too. I cornered him about it this morning, and he said that what he likes most about it is that the formula is more “dry” than other natural deodorants he’s tried.
The only qualm I have with this deodorant is that the formula is a little messy. The application isn’t super smooth, and at times it does leave little clumps. I always make sure to apply the deodorant carefully after I’ve gotten dressed because it tends to get all over my clothes if I do it before. Also, if I work out in a tank top, I notice the deodorant does occasionally spread to the outside of my armpits. I think this is an inherent part of having a clean formula, though, and it doesn’t bother me that much.
I have seen in a few reviews that the deodorant works better with time which makes sense based on the fact that it was designed to eliminate toxic buildup over time.
Primally Pure deodorant now comes in 10 different scents: Bergamot + Eucalyptus, Blue Tansy, Tea Tree, Geranium, Lavender, Vanilla + Citrus, Lemongrass, Charcoal, Unscented, and Holiday. You can see the full lineup here.
I have been using the Bergamot + Eucalyptus, and Tyler has been using the Charcoal. I realized after I ordered these that they are possibly both supposed to be for men because they are black and the rest of the floral-type scents are white? Either way, I love both of these scents and would definitely recommend them.
*I will make it a point to keep trying new scents and will add to this review as I do so!
Primally Pure’s deodorant was formulated not only to minimize odor but eliminate toxic buildup.
Coconut oil is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It helps nourish, hydrate, and soothe skin.
Tallow is full of omega fatty acids and is a natural and effective skin moisturizer.
Beeswax helps protect skin from irritation and infection.
Each product from Primally Pure’s deodorant line is made with a blend of essential oils that each have their own set of benefits.
Arrowroot Powder, Coconut Oil, Baking Soda, Tallow from Grass-Fed Cows, Beeswax, Non-nano Zinc Oxide, Kaolin Clay, Essential Oils, Rosemary Extract, Non-GMO Vitamin E
Primally Pure costs $14 for a 1.7 oz stick. I will have to circle back and update this review on how fast it runs out.
I thought it might be helpful to include a quick comparison. Prior to trying Primally Pure, I used Hume for many years. I still actually love Hume’s Desert Bloom scent SO much, but the product doesn’t last very long. I would have to apply it every few hours throughout the day. Hume deodorant has a clear formula that doesn’t show up on clothes but does feel more “wet” than Primally Pure. Hume costs $13.99 for a 2 oz stick.
