Today I’m sharing my CALPAK Stevyn Duffel review.
Last year, I wrote a review of the CALPAK Luka duffel which was the first item from the brand that I had tried. I have taken the Luka duffel on countless weekend trips and all the way to Canada and Europe for three weeks. I use it as my gym bag now too. (You can check out that review here).
Predictably, my husband started sniffing around and kept asking to borrow my Luka duffel, so I thought I’d put him to work and get him his own duffel from CALPAK so I could at least test out and review another piece from their line.
Enter the Stevyn duffel, CALPAK’s larger, more sturdy duffel that has its own dedicated, structured shoe compartment on the bottom.
After having seen the duffel in action over the last few months on a handful of weekend trips, I thought it was time to write out a full review. At the end of the post, I’ll share a little list of my favorite CALPAK products.
If you are looking for a true weekender bag, CALPAK’s Stevyn duffel bag is a great choice. Between the friendly price point, two large compartments, and its sturdy, durable design, the Stevyn duffel has really impressed us this year.
The Stevyn duffel features two large main compartments. The duffel has one large compartment on the top of the bag and a shoe compartment that spans the length of the bag on the bottom.
The zipper of the top compartment opens up like a lid as opposed to running simply lengthwise across the top. This allows the user to see everything inside at once without rummaging blindly.
The shoe compartment is, in a word, clutch. It keeps our shoes separate from the rest of our clothes without eating into the main storage area (this is one thing I don’t love about the Luka duffel, so the fact that the shoe compartment is completely separate in the Stevyn duffel is very compelling to me).
The CALPAK Stevyn duffel also has a few smaller compartments: there is a zipper pocket on the outside, just below the top handle on the front of the bag. This compartment is the perfect size for holding a phone, set of keys, and a small wallet or passport.
On the inside of the top compartment, there are two long zipper pockets on either side that span the length of the bag. These could hold socks, underwear, or even a curling iron and brush or something or that nature. There are two additional mesh open pockets, one on either end of the inside of the bag. These small compartments help keep the bigger area of the bag organized. You know I love this.
The CALPAK Stevyn duffel has a trolley sleeve, so you can secure the bag to the top of a rolling suitcase. After years of sprinting through airports and squeezing into tiny hotel elevators, I can say that this feature is so necessary. Carrying a duffel over your shoulder on a long travel day is a recipe for back pain, so we use this feature A LOT.
The CALPAK Stevyn duffel does, for the most part, stand up on its own which is so nice for both packing and unpacking purposes. One thing to note is that the top part of the bag does sink into the shoe compartment when it’s empty.
The Stevyn duffel has a pair of sturdy top handles on either side of the top opening to the bag as well as a detachable and adjustable (31”-50”) strap that can be worn either over the shoulder or across the body.
The CALPAK Stevyn duffel is made of a sturdy polyester material. I was really impressed when the bag arrived because the material is super thick and feels way more expensive than it is.
The Stevyn duffel bag weighs 3.3 lbs
The CALPAK Stevyn duffel bag costs $98. To me, this is an incredible price on such a durable, spacious duffel bag, especially when comparing the price to similarly-sized duffels from Away, Dagne Dover, and Lululemon.
The CALPAK Stevyn duffel currently comes in 9 colors: 4 classics and 5 seasonal, limited colors.
We have it in Moss green. This color is not available currently on CALPAK’s website, but it does look like Nordstrom has it in stock.
The Stevyn duffel bag is 19.5 inches long, 14 inches tall, and 10.5 inches wide. The bag holds 47L which is over double what the regular sized Luka duffel holds (22L).
The Stevyn duffel bag is TSA approved and airline overhead compartment-friendly. It would, however, not fit under an airline seat.
The bottom compartment holds 2 pairs of men’s shoes and probably 3 pairs of women’s shoes. Of course, this varies with the seasons and depends on how bulky the shoes are. You could definitely get away with several pairs of sandals and such in the summertime. My husband can fit a pair of boots and a pair of running shoes, if that helps.
The larger compartment can hold several outfits, again depending on the season and what type of clothing you are packing.
In my opinion, this is true, solid weekender size. I can fit everything I need in it for a couple of days away.
The Stevyn duffel bag is much bigger than the Luka duffel, which is a great one night, gym, or supplemental luggage piece (for example, I use the Luka to pack the girls’ pillows, blankets, and pajamas on flights). The Stevyn holds about double of what the Luka can hold.
You can purchase the CALPAK Stevyn duffel on CALPAK’s website or via Nordstrom.
I am a huge fan of CALPAK’s Luka duffel too. As discussed, it’s a great overnight or gym bag, the perfect thing to use when we pack up to go to my mom’s house for the day with the girls, etc. You can read my full review of the Luka duffel here.
I am obsessed with the clear cosmetic case. I have this in the smallest size, and it holds an unbelievable amount of products (did a little reel about this here). The quality is incredible, and I can tell I will use it for years to come.
I don’t travel anywhere without CALPAK’s packing cubes. They are amazing. I usually pack one or two for each of the girls depending on how long we’ll be gone, and this helps keep our whole situation streamlined. (Check out my tips for packing for a long trip with kids here).
These packing cubes come in the cutest colors and have a separate zipper pocket on the back which is so helpful and sets them apart from the cheap packing cubes you can get on Amazon. I also use the label slot which is nerdy, but I am who I am.
Heading somewhere warm this year? I just posted my packing list for spring and summer 2024. Check it out here.
