Today I’m sharing my Be Well by Kelly Protein Powder Review.
This review has been in the making for a long time, as I’ve been using this protein powder since it launched in 2019 and have been following the founder, Kelly Leveque, since my early twenties. To say I’m a fan is an understatement.
Kelly Leveque is a holistic and functional nutritionist based in Los Angeles. She has worked with celebrities like Jessica Alba, Molly Sims, and Jennifer Garner and has been featured on Good Morning America, Women’s Health, and The Today Show. Kelly is a fabulous follow on Instagram and has brought a grounded, science-based positivity to the health and wellness scene on social media.
She is the founder of Be Well By Kelly and author of Body Love (this book completely changed the way I think about food and “dieting”). In her book and online courses, Kelly offers a very clear, non-stressful roadmap for nourishing our bodies.
Kelly Leveque created her protein powder as a complement to her “Fab 4” smoothie formula (more on the Fab 4 below). Her grass-fed beef powder provides a clean, nutrient-dense source of protein and contains only three ingredients.
The powder is derived from Swedish grass fed beef, so the formula is dairy-free, soy-free, paleo, and keto-friendly. It’s everything you want and nothing you don’t. If you’re lactose-intolerant and struggle with whey powders, this is a great one to look into.
I have used the Be Well By Kelly protein powder nearly every day for three years, and today I am sharing my full review and all of the details you need to know about it.

**New product alert! Be Well By Kelly just launched their Essentials line which features a plain and lemon flavored Amino Acids blend. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and this product is designed to help support protein and muscle-buildling which is so important for overall health longevity. I have been taking aminos for years and cannot wait to try theirs out!

ToggleBe Well by Kelly Protein Powder is a clean, blood-sugar balancing source of grass fed beef protein. It comes in chocolate, vanilla, and unflavored. Each serving contains 24 grams of clean protein.
Between Tyler and I, we have tried a *million* protein powders. This one is by far the best tasting AND has the cleanest, simplest formula.
I use the Be Well by Kelly chocolate protein powder in our morning green smoothie, and it tastes like a chocolate milkshake (as close as a green smoothie can, anyway).
Tyler and I both love it. And–this is crucial–even the girls love it and ask for their smoothies every morning around 10am.
The taste is not chalky at all, which is RARE. I find most protein powders leave a weird, chemically aftertaste in my smoothies. The Be Well by Kelly Powder is by far the most natural tasting protein I’ve used. I’ve had no issues with digesting this powder either, as opposed to some plant-based powders I’ve tried over the years.
In terms of consistency, this powder can be sticky and is best utilized in a blender as opposed to a shaker bottle. The stickiness can be attributed to the natural occurring collagen. Many powders include emulsifiers and fillers to keep the protein from clumping–Be Well by Kelly has elected to not add of that stuff in order to maintain the integrity of their ingredients.
On their website, they recommend filling your blender with liquid first and then adding the powder before bending.
One thing that Kelly Leveque talks a lot about is the blood sugar curve and how to manage cravings and crashes. Her whole thing is that we should leave each meal feeling “full and calm” which has always made a ton of sense to me.
The goal of Kelly’s Fab 4 formula is to consume blood sugar balancing meals that consist of clean protein, healthy fat, fiber, and greens. She explains on her website:
“Eating the right amount of protein, fat, fiber and greens at each meal can help you feel your best, naturally burn fat and keep energy consistent throughout the day, avoiding insulin spikes that tell our bodies to stop burning fat and start storing it.”
The Fab 4 formula is meant to be used as a checklist of things to add to your plates, as opposed to a bunch of things you’re supposed to stay away from.
This easy-to-implement approach has empowered me and transformed the way I nourish myself and my family. It’s low-stress and takes the guessing game out of it.
I follow a lot of doctors and leaders in the health and nutrition space. And there is one idea that nearly everyone I trust agrees on: from a longevity and health standpoint, the most important thing we can do for our bodies is get enough protein. Protein supports our muscle growth, bone health, hormone production, and cell repair. It is so, so important.
And while whole, fresh foods are indisputably the best way to get those vital nutrients, starting my day with a protein-rich “fab 4” smoothie covers my bases, nutritionally, and helps set me up for success in a long day of running after my kids.
Most protein powders contain a bunch of additives and artificial sweeteners. But Be Well By Kelly protein powder is as minimal as it gets: grass fed beef isolate, monk fruit extract, and then cacao powder in the chocolate flavor and vanilla bean powder in the vanilla one. All three flavors are organic.
Kelly shares a ton of smoothie recipes over on her Instagram and website, but the main thing I use the protein powder for is my morning green smoothie. I blend the Be Well by Kelly chocolate protein powder into a huge green smoothie every morning to split between the four of us.
– huge handful of spinach or kale
-¼ cup of blueberries or a quarter of a banana
– 2 tbsp almond butter or Nutzo butter
– 4 tbsp chia or flax seed
– dash of cinnamon
– 2+ scoops of Be Well by Kelly chocolate protein powder
– 2 scoops of collagen powder
– unsweetened almond milk and/or water
– ice
Blend and serve. This recipe makes enough for two adults and two small children, so divide in half for one person. This Fab 4 smoothie provides a clean serving of protein, fat, fiber, and greens to start our days off right.
When I really have my life together, I like to batch prep these and freeze them so they are all ready to throw in the blender and blend (think Daily Harvest but on a budget, lol). You can read how I prep 3-4 weeks’ of smoothies at a time here.
I’ll be the first to say that this protein powder is an investment. But if you’re looking for a clean, grass fed beef protein powder, this is one of the best on the market. Like I said, Tyler and I have tried them all. And this is the protein powder that we keep coming back to.
And I know this is anecdotal, but I wanted to share something very interesting from my own personal experience with this protein powder:
I used a plant-based protein powder in my morning smoothie throughout my first pregnancy and in the year after I gave birth to Charlotte. Like most moms, I had the worst postpartum hair loss–I lost nearly half of my hair volume that year! It was horrible.
I switched to Be Well By Kelly’s grass fed beef protein powder right before I got pregnant with Emmie. Most of my hair grew back during that pregnancy which isn’t necessarily abnormal since pregnancy hormones can make your hair grow like crazy.
BUT THEN, after I gave birth, I noticed barely any postpartum hair loss over the course of that year. The *only* notable lifestyle difference in the two time periods was that I had switched protein powders. It’s my guess that my body just responded really well to this more bioavailable protein. Anyway, I’m not a scientist, but that’s pretty compelling, right?
Ultimately, it’s worth it for me to spend a little extra on something that I know is nourishing and fueling my family in a clean way. It tastes good, is easy to digest, and offers a baseline source of clean protein that I can build from throughout the day.
